In this Chapter, visitors can explore Churchill’s political impact as a radical Liberal MP before the First World War and his involvement in some of the most innovative social policies ever seen in this country. The visitor is also introduced to his wife, Clementine Hozier, and his close family and friends.
This section also contains probably the most controversial episodes in Churchill’s career, in particular his crossing the floor of the House of Commons on two occasions, his alleged actions during the mine and transport strikes of 1910-1911, his attitude to women’s suffrage, the Sidney Street siege, his involvement in the General Strike and most famously, the failure of the 1915 Dardanelles campaign, which might have finished his career for good.
