Videoconferences

Although we believe there is no substitute for actually visiting the site, we appreciate that this is not always possible: so why not let us come to you!

The Clore Learning Centre has state of the art videoconferencing equipment.

A variety of sessions can be offered, as most of our activities can be adapted for use in videoconferencing.  Some of the most popular are:

Artefacts
Completing various tasks will take pupils through a display of many genuine 1930s/40s artefacts including gas masks, ration books, clothing etc.

A Case for Evacuation
Become a detective and explore the contents of an evacuee’s suitcase! This leads to discussion and deduction about the owner and the evacuation scheme as a whole.

The “Civilian War Readiness Committee” workshop
After preparing at school the group is reporting back in June 1939 to central government their suggestions for action to take, in response to the threat of war.

Images of Churchill
Examine the ways in which Churchill was portrayed, in comparison to images of Hitler. Discover the purpose of these images alongside Churchill’s accessories and famous gestures.  The Learning and Access Officer will provide the materials needed for this videoconference during the session.

Leadership 
Use information from the ‘Walk in Winston Churchill’s Shoes’ interactive, and facts and images from this session to discover what makes a good leader and what qualities Churchill displayed throughout his career.

The Great Abdication Debate 1936
Winston Churchill was on the side of the King, Edward VIII, in the controversy about his marriage plans which finally led to his abdication.  Discover the views held by different people and groups in the country, and then debate the issue.

Meeting of the Cabinet, 27 January 1941
The full Cabinet meets to discuss the state of the country after five months of bombing.  Each Cabinet Minister is provided with a brief as a guide in preparing a report to the rest of the Cabinet.

D-Day Decisions
An opportunity to think about all the planning and decision making involved in the Normandy Landings:  from the need for innovative engineering, to decisions about leadership and force size and anxieties about the state of the tide and the weather.
